GMM was established in 1976 to reach out to the communist-ruled nations of Central and Eastern Europe. Prior to this GMM was the radio department of a ministry that was called Toronto Christian Mission. Today GMM is an independent Christian mission which is incorporated as a charitable organization in Canada and the USA. Its primary activities take place in Central and Eastern Europe, particularly in the countries of Poland, Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic.

In the early days of our history, when communism maintained a strong grip on this part of Europe, radio was our main tool for evangelistic outreach. It was during this time that John K. Huk (1907-1987), a Russian preacher, began this work. Later it was continued with the assistance of Charles Branum, Wray Graham, George Repetski, George Bajenski, Paul Diatel and others. Radio programs in Russian, Polish, Belarusian and Ukrainian were prepared in our Toronto studio, then sent to various shortwave radio stations in Western countries to be broadcast into Central and Eastern Europe .

Following the collapse of communism in the late 1980's, closer working ties were established with believers who lived in this part of the world. In partnership with them, we developed various new approaches to Christian ministries. Thus, several new ministries were added to our radio outreach.

Today we continue to minister in Central and Eastern Europe using radio and other media in carrying out evangelistic ministries that include preaching, teaching, starting new church plants, organizing musical concerts, Bible seminars, a camp ministry, benevolent outreach, ministry to handicapped persons, and outreach to Jewish people.

All of these involvements motivated us to change our mission's name to Global Missionary Ministries. Presently there is three full-time missionary staff working from our Mississauga, Ontario office, and a number of national coworkers in Europe with whom we maintain a regular working relationship.

MISSION STATEMENT

The primary mission of Global Missionary Ministries is to proclaim Christ's unchanging message to the ever-changing world of post-communist Central and Eastern Europe .

VALUES

  • Prayer
We know that all which is accomplished through Global Missionary Ministries is due to the grace and power of God working through human instruments. It is through prayer that we seek to understand the mind of Christ, and gain wisdom as we make decisions about responding to needs in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • Relationship
We endeavour to foster co-operative relationships among individuals, churches, and mission organizations. All that we do in Central and Eastern Europe we do in partnership with local believers.
  • Learning One from Another
We all have something to offer and learn from each other. As Apostle Paul states in Romans 1:11-12, we endeavour to encourage fellow believers in Europe , but at the same are encouraged and built up in the faith through their perspective and Christian experience.
  • Cultural Distinctives
We look for culturally appropriate means of sharing the Gospel.
  • Apolitical
We adhere to a motto, which states: "No politics, no polemics, only the Gospel." Our credo is Christ, we preach Him as the crucified Saviour, resurrected Lord and coming King.

VISION/GOALS

In cooperation with other Christian ministries, GMM exists to:

  • Establish self-supporting, self-propagating churches in Central and Eastern Europe

  • Equipping new and existing churches

  • Give benevolent aid to the needy

MEETING OUR GOALS/STRATEGY

GMM plays a major role in the life of the Church's camp program in Ostróda, Poland. Together with Zbigniew Chojnacki, the director of this camp, we desire to expand the vision of this ministry and develop it into a year-round activity center. In order for this vision to become reality, the current facilities must be upgraded, additional staff must be put into place, and finances must be procured.

GMM continues to be actively involved in a new church plant in Kovel, northwest Ukraine , especially through the woman's ministry of Natalia D.

One rapidly growing church in Minsk, Belarus, is struggling with their overcrowded facility. There are close to 400 people in attendance at four Sunday worship services in a building designed to seat 75 people. We are working with the leadership of this church to see how this situation can be changed for the better.

We will continue to support the summer camp ministry in all five countries of our involvement.

We will be working alongside a new Polish missionary endeavour, ProEcclesia, whose goal is to start another church during 2005 in one of the major cities of Poland .

GMM will continue to assist in outreach to Jewish people in Central and Eastern Europe.

We will continue to encourage churches and individuals in North America to connect with Central and Eastern European believers.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible authoritative Word of God.

We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

We believe regeneration by the Holy Spirit is necessary for the salvation of lost and sinful man.

We believe salvation is personal, therefore we preach the necessity of faith, repentance, personal acceptance of Christ as Lord and Savior, and obedience to Him in baptism.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life, serving God and people.

We believe the Word of God will lead people to do His will when it is read, believed and followed.

We believe that our Scriptural commission is to preach Christ, therefore, we preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ avoiding denominational overtones.
